Feeding frequency depends on the species, age, metabolism, and activity level of the animal. Because large rabbits are substantial whole-prey meals, many keepers offer them less frequently than smaller feeders while still maintaining proper nutritional balance.
Large rabbits contain muscle meat, edible bone, organs, connective tissue, and fur, making them a nutrient-rich whole prey option for many carnivorous reptiles, raptors, and exotic mammals. Whole prey feeding is commonly used to support more natural dietary intake.
After arrival, large rabbits should be transferred to a freezer immediately to maintain freshness and product quality. Keeping feeders sealed in freezer-safe packaging also helps reduce freezer burn and protects them during long-term storage.
Because larger feeders take longer to thaw internally, gradual refrigeration thawing helps maintain consistent temperatures throughout the prey item. Slow thawing also helps preserve tissue quality while reducing the risk of spoilage caused by uneven warming.
